SIPS recently held a gathering at the Poulton Hall courtyard tent to celebrate two of our 2015 awardees, Haroon and Ahwaz. Surrounded by friends and food, we recognized the 7 years of work and commitment by Haroon and Ahwaz to create a national movement in Pakistan for the love of learning with their ed tech company, Taleemabad.
Taleemabad is an ed-tech company that is making an entire nation fall in love with learning. The company currently works in Pakistan – home to one of the biggest populations of out-of-school children in the world. Simultaneously, the country is also one of the fastest growing and cheapest places to use a mobile phone and internet. Taleemabadwas founded by teachers, who digitized the national curriculum into cartoons and games and then used TV/Radio/Mobile Phones to reach more than 10 million children across the country with a high-quality, engaging education. Students using Taleemabad have performed 50% better than their peers, and 87% of parents report seeing tangible improvements in their child’s learning with exposure to the material. Taleemabad’s work is supported by Nobel Laureate Malala Yousufzai, as well as being awarded one of the world’s most competitive awards in education and pedagogy – given to only six companies globally each year. Taleemabad was also recognized by the late Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in 2018 for its work in reducing barriers to quality education. By 2040, the company envisions reaching 1 billion children, living in multiple underserved geographies across the globe and is gathering support to move forward on that mission.
