Girls Rise Up
Using SIPS funding, Georgetown student Omowumi (Ki-Ke) Rafiu (C’16) founded Girls Rise Up to help support girls in her native country of Nigeria. Girls Rise Up is a three day camp in Kaduna, Nigeria that focuses on empowering young girls through basketball, writing, and reflection. As a forward for Georgetown’s Women’s basketball team, Rafiu hoped to empower Nigerian girls through sports. The nonprofit program has served more than 100 students, offering female-led mentorship and coaching for more than five years.
