Pan American Infant Center
In the summer of 2019, Marelyn Perez-Badillo (NHS ‘21) worked at the Pan American Infant Center in Buenos Aires, Argentina through Georgetown University’s Transnational Health internship.
At the Infant Center, Marelyn conducted laboratory research on the basic science of viruses that cause respiratory infections in infants, children, and adolescents, learned about viral respiratory diseases and how the immune system fights, as well as shadowed medical professionals in hospitals and clinics within the INFANT Panamerican Network. She hopes to use the lessons learned from this unique experience to inform her research on health disparities and ultimately aid in better bridging the gap in translation between the “bench” and the “bedside.”
